START OF “How to Collect: Saliva Sample” VIDEO
A three-dimensional outlined polygonal shape rises onto the screen over a background of shifting blue and gray gradient colors. The shape rotates as it zooms in towards the camera. As its edges expand, they reveal words, which shift as the edges of the shape continue to rotate. The words read: “your health journey begins here.”
Narrator: Congratulations on taking the first steps to uncover deeper insights about your health.
The title of the video appears in text, reading “How to Collect: Saliva Sample.”
Narrator: In this video, we’ll show you the simple step-by-step instructions for collecting and returning your saliva sample.
As the video continues, text emphasizing the narration appears on the left side of the video, while visuals appear on the right side. The text does not add any information not present in the narration. Unless otherwise noted, all shots in this video are top-down in an infinite white space with hands using the test kit items required to complete the test. The first visual on the right side of the frame is a shot of a woman’s hands setting down a tablet. Words on the tablet’s screen read “Activation Complete” as it displays a completed activation screen on thorne.com.
Narrator: Before starting, it’s important you activate your test at thorne.com/activate. You can find the 6-digit activation code on the back of your plastic test box.
The shot transitions to a saliva collection test kit box. Hands come onto the screen and flip the box over, and then point towards the activation code.
Narrator: Once you’ve activated your test, you’ll want to read the instructional booklet completely before starting to ensure correct timing and for tips on collecting an optimal sample. Remember you’ll be collecting your four saliva samples throughout one day.
The woman flips through a booklet outlining instructions for completing the saliva collection test. The shot transitions to a side-on shot of her hands placing the tubes down one at a time, emphasizing how many samples will need to be collected.
Narrator: After reading the instructional booklet, it’s time to begin the collection process. Here are the items included with your kit: a Plastic Box, a Return Envelope, a Return Label, biohazard Bags, and Saliva Collection Tubes.
After a shot showing all the test components at once, each item is emphasized in a solo shot of the hands placing it down in sync with the narration.
Narrator: When collecting each sample, do not eat or drink anything but water, or brush your teeth within 2 hours of collection.
A smartphone with a timer app open sits next to a toothbrush. A hand comes on and grabs the toothbrush, pulling it off screen. The hand then starts the timer for two hours.
Narrator: Before beginning the process, wash your hands with soap and water and dry them with a clean towel.
After washing, the woman picks up a towel and dries off her hands.
Narrator: Choose the proper tube for the sample you are collecting. Your instruction booklet will indicate the proper tube to use.
By referring to the instructional booklet, and pointing out specific directions, the hand selects the correct collection tube to fill and picks it up.
Narrator: Remove the cap from the collection tube and bring it to your lips. Allow saliva to collect in your mouth, then gently transfer it into the collection tube. Continue until saliva reaches the halfway mark– remember, bubble don’t count.
A head-on shot shows the lower half of a woman’s face. She takes the cap off of the collection tube and raises the tube to her lips. An animated representation of saliva begins to fill the tube. No actual saliva is shown.
Narrator: Once saliva reached the half-way mark, replace and tighten cap. Write your name and the date and time on the label.
As soon as the animated saliva reaches the halfway mark, the cap is replaced and we see a shot of the hands writing the information on the label.
Narrator: Place the collection tube in the biohazard bag and reseal. Repeat this procedure for all tubes that came with your kit.
The tube is placed in a ziplock biohazard bag and placed next to the other tubes which are standing upright. A second tube is selected and carried off screen.
Narrator: Place the saliva samples not being shipped within 24 hours in the freezer until you’re ready to return all four samples.
An ice tray is placed near the biohazard back containing two finished saliva samples. The bag is picked up and placed on the tray and carried off screen, implying that the samples will be placed in the freezer.
Narrator: Now comes the easy part, returning your samples. When you are ready to return them, place the samples inside the plastic box they arrived in. Seal and place box in the return envelope. Apply the return label, and drop the envelope in your mailbox, or take it to a USPS drop box or post office. Shipping is pre-paid, so your sample should be on its way to the lab as soon as it’s picked up.
The woman follows the directions for packing up and mailing off the test kit. Once the envelope is assembled, and the label is applied, she carries the package away to deliver it. After that, words on the screen emphasizing the final lines of narration appear, then cut to an animation of the Thorne logo on black.
Narrator: That’s all there is to it! Now you are just days away from starting your new health discoveries.
