No Standard Higher
When the highest standards have been met, Thorne creates higher ones.
At Thorne, we refuse to take short cuts. We have invested in doing comprehensive testing, sourcing the highest quality ingredients, creating a clean manufacturing process, and protecting the environment. Our team of medical professionals, researchers, and engineers lead with science, thoughtfully refining every product and process. That is why we are the brand trusted by healthcare practitioners, U.S. National Teams, and families around the world for more than 30 years.
1 Sourcing exceptional ingredients
We develop better standards for higher quality ingredients.
Thorne cares deeply about where our ingredients come from. We partner only with suppliers whose practices emphasize quality, science, and responsibility. Better ingredients means better potency, absorption, and digestibility - and ultimately better health.
Factors we consider
Thorne's "No" ListSee what's on the list >
Incoming ingredients are quarantined until tested and verified
We test for 760 unique items.
- Heavy metals
- Residual solvent
- Pesticide residues
- Organoleptic testing
2 Manufacturing the right way
We manufacture our own products to ensure full supply chain transparency.
For more than 30 years, we have invested in clean manufacturing practices. We refuse to use magnesium stearate or any other ingredients that can inhibit absorption - even though this decision makes the manufacturing process more difficult. We perform our final production in the United States. Our Sandpoint, Idaho facility is third-party certified.
Thorne has an exemplary record of compliance with the Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Our manufacturing facility, warehouses, and shipping centers are regularly inspected and have passed every inspection without issuance of an FDA Form 483.
Thorne received an A1 rating from Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration, widely recognized as the toughest regulatory agency in the world. Only a handful of U.S. companies have achieved certification, and Thorne is the first U.S. nutritional supplement company to be fully certified.
Thorne has an NSF Certified facility and manufactures more than 30 NSF Certified for Sport® products which gives athletes complete confidence in Thorne products. This is particularly important for the 11 U.S. National Teams we partner with as their exclusive provider of nutritional supplements.
Test, test, test,
Four rounds of testing
We have invested in two state-of-the-art in-house laboratories that allow us to conduct four rounds of testing, while most competitors test only one or two times.
Raw materials and components. We test every raw material and component. In our in-house laboratory we screen for more than 1,000 contaminants.
Finished product testing. We test every finished product to ensure its identity, potency, and purity have been maintained and that there has been no microbiological contamination during manufacturing.
In-process testing. We test every in-process batch for homogeneity and identity to confirm consistency.
Stability testing. We test for product stability to confirm that our product will meet the label claim up to the product's time of expiration.
4 Thinking sustainably
We're thinking sustainably to protect our environment.
We believe the environment should never be compromised for the sake of business gain. At Thorne, doing our part to protect the environment and its most valuable resources goes hand in hand with our quality standards.
Protecting endangered botanical sources
We take pride in being a steward of the botanical ingredients we use in our products. If we learn a botanical ingredient is becoming endangered or find that over-sourcing has diminished the quality of existing supplies, then we will discontinue its use in our product line and recommend a different botanical raw ingredient with a similar mechanism of action, but only after assuring that it has a quality profile that meets our standards.
Lightening our environmental impact
Paperless "pick, pack, and ship" has essentially eliminated our use of paper and ink toner when processing customer orders. From our shipping boxes to the paper, fill-air pillows, and padded packs inside them, nearly all of our shipping supplies are made from recycled materials.
