Nicotinamide Riboside

Nicotinamide Riboside

About Nicotinamide Riboside

A member of the vitamin B3 family that directly stimulates the production of NAD+, a co-enzyme that is essential to the creation of energy in the body.*

Nicotinamide riboside – or NR – is a naturally-occurring form of vitamin B3 that works within every cell to support healthy metabolism and detoxification, help us age well and exercise better, and support cognitive function.* NAD+ is arguably the most important cellular co-factor for improving mitochondrial number and function – thus having a direct beneficial impact on energy production in every cell of the body.

Unfortunately, the amount of NAD+ the body makes naturally declines as we age, with a corresponding decrease in the activity of numerous enzymes and healthy aging proteins. In addition, NR can only be obtained naturally in very small quantities from milk, fish, beer, mushrooms, green vegetables, and whole grains.

The Thorne Difference

Nicotinamide riboside that is bound to hydrogen malate is an ingredient that is exclusive to Thorne. Malate, an important Kreb’s cycle organic acid, supports NR’s  role in cellular energy production capability.*

Optimizing NR’s benefit can be further achieved when the body’s methylation processes are promoted. Researchers have found correlations between the aging of bodily tissues and the extent of DNA methylation – known as “epigenetic clocks.” The Thorne products that contain nicotinamide riboside also contain nutrients that are well known methyl donors, in contrast to NR products on the market that do not contain methyl-donating nutrients.
