What is California Proposition 65?

Proposition 65, which is officially known as the Safe Drinking Water and Toxic Enforcement Act of 1986, is a law enacted by the State of California in 1986. The law is intended to protect California residents from chemicals that are believed to cause cancer, birth defects, or other reproductive harm. Proposition 65 requires California to maintain and update a list of these chemicals and requires companies that do business in California to inform residents about exposure to such chemicals that are in their products.
