Our Quality
We create carefully considered products that are made without compromise.
Thorne aims to elevate science in our industry and by achieving levels of quality once thought impossible.
We invest in comprehensive testing, sourcing high quality ingredients, and creating a clean manufacturing process to provide solutions for your health. While others in the industry care more about what their products look like than how they actually work, we believe that all the marketing in the world can't replace real science, technology, and the practices we use to manufacture and deliver our solutions.

Manufacturing the right way
A commitment to quality throughout our entire manufacturing process
Using advanced equipment, our quality team methodically tests our raw ingredients, and then our production team meticulously crafts each supplement with the utmost consideration for details, from mixing the raw materials to encapsulating and bottling the finished product. Because we manufacture many of our products in our facility in Summerville, South Carolina, we have total authority over what goes into our products, so we refuse to use magnesium stearate or any other arbitrary filler that can inhibit absorption. Using unnecessary ingredients goes against our belief to design and provide optimal solutions for health. To meet the highest quality standards we also ensure that our facility is third-party certified.
cGMP Certified
cGMP
Thorne has an exemplary record of compliance with the Current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), set by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. Our manufacturing facility, warehouses, and shipping centers are inspected and have passed every inspection without issuance of an FDA Form 483.

Sourcing exceptional ingredients
We develop better standards for higher quality ingredients
Thorne cares deeply about where our ingredients come from. We partner with trusted suppliers who share our values for quality, science, and responsibility. We focus on ingredient quality because we believe that with better ingredients, we can formulate products designed for optimal potency, absorption, and digestibility.
Absorption
Our formulas are designed to deliver the most absorbable forms of nutrients. More
Clinical Research
We only use ingredients that have been validated by clinical research to be safe and effective for their intended use. More
Allergens
We test and formulate products with careful consideration for allergens and sensitivities. More
Ingredients
Incoming ingredients are quarantined in our facility until they are tested and verified.
We thoroughly test to verify the identity, potency, and purity of each ingredient listed on our product labels.
Designing the next generation of health solutions all starts at the source. And we take sourcing seriously. Our research and development team searches the globe for quality ingredients to use in our nutritional solutions.

Four Rounds of Testing
We have two modern, in-house laboratories that enable us to conduct four rounds of testing, while most of our competitors test only once or twice.
Round 1
Raw materials and components
We test every raw material and component. In our in-house laboratory we screen for raw material contaminants.
Round 2
In-process testing
In-process testing helps ensure the correct amount of ingredients are used in our formulations, and we stringently check for any bottle, label, or capsule defects throughout the manufacturing process.
Round 3
Finished product testing
Before being released for sale, finished products are tested to confirm the identity, potency, and purity of the ingredients, and to confirm that no microbiological contamination occurred during manufacturing.
Round 4
Stability testing
We test product stability to confirm each product will meet its label claims up to the product’s expiration date.

Sustainable Thinking
Our ethics extend to ecological and cultural responsibility.
Thorne believes the environment should never be compromised for the sake of business gain. At Thorne, doing our part to protect the environment and its resources goes hand-in-hand with our quality standards.
Technologies
To make a game-changing impact on reducing our carbon footprint, we invested in R&D and produced a new technology to deliver supplements. Out of this effort we launched Effusio by Thorne – a revolutionary line of dissolvable supplement discs. Effusio products reimagine the way supplements are delivered and packaged – eliminating the reliance on plastic.
Ingredients
Protecting endangered botanical resources is how we source ingredients in a responsible way that is protective of our environment. We take pride in being a steward of the botanical ingredients we use in our products. If we learn a botanical ingredient is becoming endangered or find that over-sourcing is diminishing the quality of an existing supply, then we will discontinue the ingredient’s use in our product line and recommend a different botanical raw ingredient with a similar mechanism of action – but only after assuring the new ingredient has a quality profile that meets our standards.
Shipping
As our sustainability roadmap evolves, we are working on long-term solutions to eliminate unnecessary paper waste, including an innovative paperless “pick, pack, and ship” system. From our shipping boxes, fill-air pillows, and padded packs inside them, nearly all of our shipping supplies are made from recycled materials.

Real-life examples of how we live our commitment to quality everyday at Thorne.
A ratio: 4 hours of production for every 16 hours of cleaning
Our top-selling Meriva product suite features curcumin. Because curcumin is hard to work with, it requires time-consuming methods when manufacturing products that contain it. A single 4-hour production run can require 16 hours of extensive follow-up cleaning.
We could save time and money by using processing aids that shortens the production time and makes cleaning quicker. But that would require using unnecessary fillers and additives – which goes against our belief to only design and provide optimal solutions for your health.
Preserving our ecosystem
Recently, we had a botanical ingredient – the kutki herb- that’s been used in supplements for centuries because of its role in supporting liver function.* During our meticulous testing process, however, we began receiving batches of kutki that didn’t meet our specification. Our lab tests showed us it wasn’t the species that we wanted – it was a similar species, but not the exact species – and it was adulterated with lesser ingredients, making it impure. When we looked into it, we found the reason was that the particular kutki species we wanted was endangered. So we couldn’t continue using it. It wouldn’t be right. We immediately began to reformulate and looked for an equally safe and efficacious alternative ingredient, although it caused us to go on backorder for several products. This wasn’t the first time Thorne has done this – and it won’t be the last.
