TGA certification
Since there is no official regulatory agency in the United States that can 'certify' GMPs, Thorne has, since 1999, incurred the expense of being voluntarily audited and inspected by Australia's Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). The auditors from this official agency of the Australian government, whose certification is recognized and accepted by other governments worldwide, not only review Thorne's GMPs on an ongoing basis, but also conduct on-site inspections of every aspect of Thorne's manufacturing and quality control. VIEW PDF OF TGA CERTIFICATE (PDF) The TGA certification achieved by Thorne Research - for 'medicinal products' - is the same certification that is designated for Australian pharmaceutical manufacturers, thus permitting Thorne, were it our business, to market pharmaceutical products in Australia and other countries that accept the TGA certification. Thorne Research is the only U.S.-based dietary supplement company we are aware of serving the practitioner market that is TGA-certified. However, in keeping with the desires of the TGA, Thorne does not commercialize its TGA certification in our marketing efforts, such as putting a TGA 'seal of approval' on our label.
