Joint support for small animals
Arthroplex helps maintain healthy joint function by combining the proven joint protective activity of glucosamine sulfate with supportive ingredients and botanicals. Although there are many products available to support joint health, it is extremely important to have pure ingredients that are readily absorbed in the older patient whose intestinal function may be limited. The unique combination of top quality ingredients in this formula provides a broad spectrum of activity.
In addition to glucosamine sulfate, Arthroplex contains the botanical Boswellia. Boswellia appears to inhibit the activity of lipoxygenase enzymes, thus promoting the animal's normal inflammatory response. A recent in vivo study examined Boswellia extract for its effect on glycosaminoglycan metabolism. Glycosaminoglycans form an important component of the body's connective tissues. Boswellia significantly reduced the degradation of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) compared to controls.
Arthroplex also contains bromelain – a protein-digesting enzyme complex from pineapple. Bromelain stimulates fibrinolytic activity and inhibits thromboxane A2 that positively affects pro-inflammatory cytokines and prostaglandins. Evidence indicates that bromelain's action is in part a result of inhibiting the generation of bradykinin via depletion of the plasma kallikrein system.
Green-lipped mussels, or Perna mussels, are rich in all the major classes of GAGs, including chondroitin-4- and -6-sulfates, as well as amino acids, polypeptides, and nucleic acids (RNA and DNA). Green-lipped mussels also contain omega-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids extracts that may inhibit cytokine activity to help maintain normal inflammatory processes.
DL-Phenylalanine is a component of the catecholamine neurotransmitter cascade, leading to increased levels of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and dopamine, which can in turn increase levels of endorphins and enkephalins.
