a daily multi vitamin-mineral supplement for oncology patients*
In 2001, Thorne Research pioneered the manufacturing of products made especially for physicians who assist patients dealing with cancer. Designed by Dr. Davis Lamson and Dr. Matthew Brignall, Thorne's Nutritional Support for Oncology Patients (NSOP) program provides nutrients and botanicals to optimize the immune system and to replace nutrients known to be depleted by conventional cancer therapies.*
Supportive Care II is a multiple vitamin-mineral combination formulated specifically for the nutritional support of the oncology patient.* It contains nutrients in amounts supported by the scientific literature. This supplement avoids the use of nutrients that research suggests might be detrimental to oncology patients. Therefore, Supportive Care II does not contain copper, iron, boron, and manganese, as these minerals can be detrimental to oncology patients. Conversely, Supportive Care II contains higher amounts of nutrients that have been found to be of benefit to this patient population; for example, vitamin D and vitamin A.*
Thorne's NSOP program is not meant to replace or be an adjunct to conventional therapies; instead, it provides nutritional support to oncology patients during and after conventional therapies.* Along with a healthy whole-foods diet, exercise, stress reduction, and appropriate medical treatment, the cornerstones of Thorne's NSOP program – Supportive Care and Supportive Care II – provide optimal nutritional support.*

INTERACTIONS
Folinic acid and 5-methyl-tetrahydrofolate supplementation is not recommended concurrently with methotrexate cancer therapy, as they can interfere with methotrexate's anti-neoplastic activity; however, these folate sources have not been shown to interfere with the anti-inflammatory activity of methotrexate. An individual taking methotrexate for psoriasis or rheumatoid arthritis can safely take a supplement containing folate.
