In an effort to provide the best quality products, we have made a Calcium Citrate formula change. Whereas it previously contained 150 mg of elemental calcium per capsule, it now contains 140 mg per capsule. The citrate that the calcium is bound to for enhanced absorption over other forms of calcium take up a lot of room in the capsule. Since we do not use magnesium stearate, it was difficult to squeeze 150 mg of this well-absorbed form of calcium into our largest capsules. The attempts to do so often resulted in the capsules not locking properly and loose powder appearing in the bottle. This slight decrease should alleviate this problem.
calcium bound to citrate for enhanced absorption*
Calcium bound to citric acid is a well-absorbed form of calcium.* Citric acid is a naturally occurring organic acid that is able to efficiently bind three mineral molecules for every one of its own molecules. Studies have shown significantly more calcium is absorbed in the body from calcium citrate than from calcium carbonate.* One study found patients with low hydrochloric acid levels absorbed an average of 10 times more calcium from citrate than from carbonate.*
According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, adequate calcium throughout life, as part of a well-balanced diet and physical activity, may reduce the risk of osteoporosis later in life.
