Free radical damage has been implicated in a number of adverse health conditions. Free radicals can attack, infiltrate, and injure vital cell structures, leading to a destructive chain reaction called lipid peroxidation. This series of reactions causes damage to the lipid layer of cell membranes and can even cause DNA breakage. Free radicals are produced as a result of normal biochemical processes, certain diseases, and environmental or dietary stress.
